Thank you, Yaara. I understand about the hey giving direction. I will need to get used to that expression -the sun comes out and I will. Thanks again!

Hi Shelley Lynn,

If you are referring to the word "החוצה", the Hey at the end is a unique form suggesting a direction. You will find it in very few words, like these:

הביתה - lit: to the home

פנימה - lit: to the inside

החוצה - lit: to the outside

Since this is a pretty rare form, I don't think you should worry about it too much.

About the “m” before "outside": באה מבחוץ means "comes from outside". In your sentence, you wanted to say the sun comes out(side), so the right phrase will be יוצאת החוצה - literally meaning "comes (out) to the outside".

I hope this makes sense

Sincerely,

Yaara

Aha, sun is a noun so you can say "yesh" in front of it! Thank you for explaining that verb to me, it just didn't look right. I believe with the "hay" at the end, the form is then for "She" in the past as sun can be both masculine and feminine? Interesting about "mdei" I understand the corrections in my sentence. However, can you put a "m" before outside and it will still be correct or is that an expression? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Shelley Lynn,

Thank you for posting.

You are right, in the notes and in the lesson materials there is a י (yud) before the word קריר (chilly), and there is no reason for it to be there. we will fix it soon, thank you.

So as you can understand, it is not acceptable to say Yesh before an adjective.

Yes, you can say "shimshi" - sunny (שמשי).

In the sentence "the sun was blinding me", the verb was in its past form - סנוורה (sinvera). The present form is מסנוורת (mesanveret), and the infinitive is לסנוור (lesanver). This verb belongs to the Pi'el form, but is a bit unusual since it has four "root letters".

In the sentence about the ceremony in Jerusalem, you can substitute “call” for “midei” (מִדֵי) for “each” year, but Midei will be more accurate since it means "once a...". Please note that this word is different from the word Miyad (מיד) - "immediately", even though their spelling is similar.

And for your sentence:

What is the weather in Tel Aviv? The weather is chilly and cloudy, but sometimes the sun comes out.

?מזג האויר קריר ומעונן, אבל לפעמים השמש יוצאת החוצה. איך מזג האוויר בתל אביב

Good job!

Sincerely,

Yaara
