There must be quite a few of our listeners who are still school students, so this lesson will be particularly useful for you! But here's a question for everyone: what is/was your favourite and least favourite subject at school? If you need vocabulary words, please feel free to ask us below :).

Hi שירה,

Thanks for sharing!

Good work! Note that you have a redundancy on "המקצוע האהוב עליי בבית הספר הוא היה צרפתית" - the correct phrase will be "המקצוע האהוב עליי בבית הספר היה צרפתית" without "הוא"

המקצוע האהוב עליי בבית הספר הוא היה צרפתית. האמת, תמיד הייתי אוהבת שפות וניסיתי ללמוד הרבה שפות בבית ספר ובאוניברסיטה. כשהייתי באוניברסיטה, למדתי פוליטיקה כמגמה ראשית, עם צרפתית כמגמה מישנית.

Hi Shelley Goldenberg,

Thanks for commenting. Interesting question, a little tricky to explain...

The extra 'vav' is to make the word "work" into plural -עבודות. Since we are not dealing with a specific artwork, or event, but the general "habit" of doing it, and your sentence might represent a several repeating event and many different artworks, the plural form is used.

Hope it'c clear, ?

Ahh, I need to insert your words in parenthesis. Not sure that I understand the vav that you added into " Art work" as morphix has it without the vav. Isn't it a smichut without the vav? Thanks for your corrections.

Yes interesting-did not know that pen ,wind, and knife, are both masculine and feminine. Nevertheless the audio should match the written, please correct or explain in the notes. Glad to know that the dictionaries end in yud as I wasn't sure when I heard the "t" sound at the end in the audio.

Hi Shelley,

Thanks for you comments.

A specific language dictionary is indeed ending with "י" - ie - Hebrew-English dict = מילון עברי-אנגלי milon ivri-angli.

Pen is one of the few words in Hebrew that are Feminine AND Masculine actually, (also - wind, sun, knife) but you are right that it's usually referred to as masculine...

Your translation -

אני משתמשת במספריים (בשביל) לגזור תמונות של חיות מתוך מגזינים עבור (ה)נכדים שלי. הם מדביקים אותם על עבודות האמנות שלהם ואחר

כף משתמשים בטושים שלהם

I use scissors to cut pictures of animals from magazines for my grandchildren. They glue them on their artwork and then use their markers. אני משתמשת במספריים לגזור תמונות של חיות מתוך מגזינים עבור נכדים שלי. הם מדבקים אותם על עבודת האמנות שלהם ואחר כף להשתמש טושיםיהם

Shalom Roi, I think I am hearing a tav at the end of french english dictionary under the vocabulary for dictionary. The written has both halves, french -english ending in yud. Is this correct? Also the audio of the expansion sentence black pen under pen in the vocabulary seems to make the pen feminine "Shachorah" and the notes indicate that the pen is masculine.
