Lesson Transcript

Hi everyone! שָׁלוֹם (shalom)
my name is Yaara, and this is Hebrew weekly words. So I actually don’t know what this week’s theme is. So let’s find out together. This week’s theme is Hobbies.
תחביבים
(taħbivim)
What are your hobbies?
לשחק שחמט
(le’saħek shaħmat)
“To play chess”.
“When I was in Elementary school, we actually had a chess lesson.”
כשאני הייתי בבית הספר היסודי, היה לי שיעור שחמט.
(kshe-ani hayiti be-beit ha-sefer ha-yesodi, haya li shi-ur shaħmat.)
yeah. That didn’t go very well for me - I never won.
לאסוף בולים
(le’esof bulim)
“To collect stamps”.
“My father had a stamp collection.”
אבא שלי אסף בולים.
(aba sheli asaf bulim.)
Then he gave me the collection and I obviously lost it.
לגלוש באינטרנט
(liglosh ba-internet)
“To surf the net”.
Is that a hobby? It’s more like a way of life, I would say.
“You surf the net too much!”
אתה גולש באינטרנט יותר מדי!
(ata golesh ba-internet yoter midai!)
‎לשחק פוקר
(le’saħek poker)
“To play poker”.
Okay, the next hobbie is “to play poker”, and this is a common hobby in Israel.
“I went over to a friend of mine to play poker.”
הלכתי לחבר שלי לשחק פוקר.
(halakhti le-ħaver sheli le’saħek poker.)
I actually never played poker. I don’t even know how to do that.
‎צילום
(tzilum)
“Photography”.
“I always wanted to take a photography class.”
תמיד רציתי ללכת לחוג צילום.
(Tamid ratziti la’lekhet le-ħug tzilum.)
I never did that though, I’m kinda lazy.
And this is the end. So thank you so much for watching Hebrew weekly words. Don’t forget to check our site, and I will see you next week. Bye, להתראות (le’hitra’ot)!
I feel I lost my personality.

Hi PedroO,

Thanks for posting and for sharing!

Well written - but I'm not sure about the beginning of the 2nd phrase - Did you mean to write "I play 2 times 7"? in this case the right translation will be "פעמיים שבע" - "pa'amayim sheva". פעמיים means "twice" in Hebrew.

Keep up the good work!

Yours,

Roi

Hi Bertha,

Thanks for commenting!

As a female, one would say '“I play golf” - אני משחקת גולף.

A male would say "אני משחק גולף".

Happy to help!

Hi !

I have a question about how a sentence has been romanized in the lesson notes :

כשאני הייתי בבית הספר היסודי

kshe'ani haiti be'beit sefer yesodi

Should not hat be : "kshe'ani haiti be'veit ha-sefer ha-yesodi" instead ?

Please advise, thanks !
