Shalom, ani Yana! Welcome to Hebrewpod101.com’s Alef-Beit be-kalei kalut.
The fastest, easiest, and most fun way to learn the Hebrew alphabet: the alef-beit!
In the last lesson we finished up the first 10 Hebrew letters of the Alef-Beit, and 6 niqqud symbols.
Can you remember how to write "Good brother" in Hebrew?
I am sure you can do it!
Now lets move on to the eleventh letter- כ- 'kaf'.
The sound of 'kaf' is 'k'.
lets write it-
one.
one.
Just half a circle to the right, starting from the upper left side- and going down.
The print is the same but with sharp corners-
one, two.
one, two.
'kaf' actually is only pronounced like 'k' when it has a dot inside. Just like 'Beit' only has the b sound when it has this dot.
Without the dot it sounds like 'kh'.
כ- 'khaf'.
A good example is the word-
כּוֹכָב- 'kokhav'- which means a star.
כּוֹכָב
כּ
וֹ
כָ
ב
and in print-
כּוֹכָב
Be careful, though. The letter 'khaf'(sound 'kh') takes a different shape when it is written at the end of the word-
It looks like this:
ך
ך
one.
one.
the print is quite similar-
ך
ך
Just with a sharp corner.
Pay attention to lengthen the stroke down out of the frame.
Now let's have a short review of the first 11 letters -- The first half of the alphabet!
Be ready with a pen and paper;
I'll say the letter out loud, starting from 'Alef' and give you a second to write it down, first in hand writing and then in print style.
Then I will write it myself- first- the handwriting versioin and then the print.
Are you ready?
Let's go.
'Alef'
א,א
'Beit'
בּבּ,
'Gimel'
ג,ג
'Dalet'
ד,ד
'Hei'
ה,ה
'Vav'
ו,ו
'Zayin'
ז,ז
'Het'
ח,ח
'Tet'
ט,ט
'Yod'
י,י
and
'Kaf'
כּ,כּ
Good job!
Now it's time for Yana's insight.
