Lesson Transcript

Hi everyone! I’m Alisha.
Welcome to Conversational Phrases!
We’ve found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you’ll use in real conversations.
In this lesson, you’ll learn conversational phrases to answer the question, "What's your favorite number?" After watching this video, you’ll be able to say many numbers and ask someone their favorite number.
Now, let’s take a look at some conversational phrases!
Listen to the dialogue.
מהו המספר האהוב עליך ביותר?
(Mahu ha-mispar ha-ahuv alekha be-yoter?)
המספר האהוב עלי ביותר הוא שבע.
(Ha-mispar ha-ahuv alay beyoter hu sheva.)
Once more with the English translation.
מהו המספר האהוב עליך ביותר?
(Mahu ha-mispar ha-ahuv alekha be-yoter?)
“What's your favorite number?”
המספר האהוב עלי ביותר הוא שבע.
(Ha-mispar ha-ahuv alay beyoter hu sheva.)
“It's seven.”
First of all you'll need to learn how to say “What's your favorite number?”
That's:
מהו המספר האהוב עליך ביותר?
(Mahu ha-mispar ha-ahuv alekha be-yoter?)
Listen to it again:
מהו המספר האהוב עליך ביותר?, מהו המספר האהוב עליך ביותר?
(Mahu ha-mispar ha-ahuv alekha be-yoter?, Mahu ha-mispar ha-ahuv alekha be-yoter?)
“What's your favorite number?”
Now, how do you answer this question?
The pattern is:
המספר האהוב עלי ביותר הוא [number].
(Ha-mispar ha-ahuv alay beyoter hu [number].)
This Hebrew sentence literally means “My favorite number is [number].”
For example:
“It's seven.”
המספר האהוב עלי ביותר הוא שבע., המספר האהוב עלי ביותר הוא שבע.
(Ha-mispar ha-ahuv alay beyoter hu sheva., Ha-mispar ha-ahuv alay beyoter hu sheva.)
