Lesson Transcript

Hi, everyone! Good to see you again. I'm Yaara and today we're going to be doing 10 Lines You Need For Introducing Yourself in Hebrew. So let's start!
1.
שמי יערה
(shmi Yaara) "My name is Yaara"
Okay, this one is the most basic.
שמי יערה
(shmi Yaara) "My name is Yaara"
(shmi) means “My name” and it’s the same for men and women.
You should know this is a bit formal.
The casual way of introducing yourself is saying
קוראים לי יערה
(kor-eem li Yaara) "I'm called Yaara."
2.
שלום, נעים להכיר אותך!!
(shalom, naim lehakir otkha!) "Hello, it's nice to meet you!
You say this when you’re talking to a male.
Otherwise, it’s
שלום, נעים להכיר אותך!
(shalom, naim lehakir otakh)
3.
אני מישראל
(ani me'israel) "I'm from Israel”
You can obviously change that.
“I’m from Italy” would be
אני מאיטליה
[ani me'italiya]
“I’m from America” will be
אני מאמריקה
[ani me'america]
4.
אני גרה בירושלים
(ani gara be'yerushalaim) "I live in Jerusalem"
I said the female form.
The male form would be
אני גר בירושלים
(ani gar be'yerushalaim)
This verb (ani gar), it doesn’t mean to live, like, to exist, but to live in a place.
So
אני גר בירושלים
(ani gar be'yerushalaim)
5.
אני לומדת עברית כבר שנה
(ani lomedet ivrit kvar shana) "I've been learning Hebrew for a year”
For a man, it would be
אני לומד עברית כבר שנה
(ani lomed ivrit kvar shana)
6.
אני בת עשרים ושבע
(ani bat esrim ve'sheva) "I'm 27 years old.”
For a male,
אני בן עשרים ושבע
(ani ben esrim ve'sheva)
7.
אני מורה
(ani morah) "I'm a teacher”
Or for a male,
אני מורה
(ani moreh)
You obviously don’t have to say that if you know the teacher.
8.
אחד התחביבים שלי הוא קריאה
(ekhad ha'takhbivim sheli hu kri-ah) "One of my hobbies is reading."
The sentence stays the same for male and for female speaker
9.
אני נהנית להאזין למוסיקה
(ani nehenet leha-azun le'musika) "I enjoy listening to music.”
For male speaker,
אני נהנה להאזין למוסיקה
(ani nehene leha-azin le'musika)
10.
גדלתי בתל אביב
(gadalti be'tel aviv) "I grew up in Tel Aviv"
This sentence stays the same for a male and for a female speaker
Obviously if you grew up somewhere else, you can also say
גדלתי בניו יורק
(gadalti be'nu york) ”I grew up in New York.”
Or,
גדלתי בפריז
(gadalti be'pariz) “I grew up in Paris.”
Okay, so these were 10 Lines You Need For Introducing Yourself in Hebrew. Thank you so much for watching and we’ll see you on the next video. Bye!
One of my hobbies is reading.
