Lesson Transcript

Hi, everyone! Thanks for joining me, my name is Yaara, and I hope you're ready to learn some Hebrew, because I know I am! Just kidding, I already speak Hebrew. Today we're going to talk about 10 Foods That Will Make You Live Longer! Exciting!
(avocado) "avocado"
(khavera sheli, Noa, sonet avocado.)
"My friend, Noa, hates avocados."
She obviously doesn't know what's good for her.
(egoz makademia) "macademia nut"
(hu okhel egoz makademia ekhad kol boker.)
"He eats one macademia nut every morning."
That's an odd habit.
(ukhmanit) "blueberry”
The plural is אוכמנית (ukhmaniyot)
(savta sheli mekhina ribat ukhmaniyot metsuyenet.)
"My grandmother makes great blueberry jam. "
That's a lie, because we don't really have blueberries in Israel, I think, we don't grow them here, at least.
(banana) "banana"
(hu okhel rak bananot yerukot.)
"He eats only green bananas."
(dag) "fish"
There's a famous Moroccan fish, well it’s famous in Israel, called Khraime.
(khraime hu dag kharif be'rotev agvaniyot.)
"Khraime is a spicy fish in tomato sauce. "
(tofu) "tofu"
(hekhanti orez metugan im tofu.)
"I made stir-fried rice with tofu."
(shum) "garlic"
(le'shum yesh ta-am khazak meod.)
"Garlic has a very strong taste."
(shibolet shual) "oatmeal"
So it's a bit different because when we say שיבולת שועל (shibolet shual), you mean the raw material you know the dry things you cook the oatmeal with. So if you're talking about, like, what you made for breakfast, this bowl of gooey white dish, you would say
(at okhevet daisat shibolet shual?)
"Do you like oatmeal?"
(te yarok) "green tea"
(ata ma-adif kafe o te yarok?)
"Do you prefer coffee or green tea?"
(zait) "olive”
Plural is זיתים (zeitim).
(ani ohevet zeitim shkhorim.)
"I like black olives. "
So this is it! I hope you paid attention and that you're going to change your diet now, because these with 10 Foods That Will Make You Live Longer. So leave us a comment below, if you have anything interesting to say, and don’t forget to check out the site. See you, bye!

Yes very important to health conscious as they say heath is wealth. It reminded me of a cave near the Tibet Plateu where there was this sign,Health is wealth and money can buy medicines but not health and money can buy books but not knowledge. In the morning i like solid carbohydrate like bread, rice and in the midday light like biscuits and again a light dinner and with foods i like everything especially so when your stomach growls ,everything becomes tastey.

Hi Roi and Gary, I think it makes more sense to translate it literally, bread from flour whole, hebraically or whole flour, english-wise. Thank you for asking, Gary. I also did not know this.

Hi Gary,

hanks for your comment.

In Hebrew, we "whole" is שלם - shalem, however in this context we use "מלא" (=full) - such as in לחם מקמח מלא = bread from whole wheat.

Happy to help :)

How would one say whole wheat as in whole bread or whole wheat pasta? I've been asking, in English, for brown bread and hoping for the best, but.....

Hi Shelley,

Just some small errors allow me to correct - you wrote "אתמול אני אכלתי כל המאוכלים האלה למעט דייסת שיבולת שועל בקערה"

While it should be "אתמול אכלתי את כל המאכלים האלה למעט דייסת שיבולת שועל בקערה"

2 important notes

- you wrote אני אכלתי, when אכלתי already means "I ate" so in this context it's redundant to say אני אכלתי

- you forgot the "את" which is an impotent connection word here.
