Hi, everybody! This is Idit from HebrewPod101.com.
Do you know how to say “thank you” in Hebrew? In this lesson, you'll learn three different ways to say "thank you" and how to respond.
Let’s start with the easiest one.
Toda.
[slowly] Toda.
It means “thank you.”
If you want to show your sincere appreciation for something, say this phrase.
Toda raba.
[slowly] Toda raba.
The word Raba means "a lot." So Toda raba means "Thank you very much."
It expresses a deeper appreciation for some personal kindness.
What if you want to address the recipient when saying "Thank you?" Here's the way to say it.
Toda raba lakh.
[slowly] Toda raba lakh.
When addressing to a woman, simply add the word lakh. To a man, say Toda raba lekha.
lakh and lekha means "to you," so it literally means "thanks to you."
Now you know 3 different ways to say "thank you" in Hebrew! But how do you respond if someone thanks you?
If someone says "thank you" in Hebrew, simply say Bevakasha. It means "you're welcome."
Let's wrap up this lesson by recapping what we've learned. Listen to the expressions and repeat after me.
