This letter is called ש (shin). Do you know how to write ש (shin)? Get your pen and paper ready!
The sound of this letter is [sh], [sh].
Here is how you write ש (shin):
Start by drawing a vertical line down, from there, keep drawing a horizontal line to the right, and write another vertical line at its right from the bottom. In the middle, draw another vertical line downwards, connecting it to the bottom horizontal line.
The cursive version is like this:
ש
With dot:
שׂ
Shin is pronounced 'sh' when the dot is on the upper right side שׁ.
When the dot is on the upper left side, שׂ - it's called sin, and the sound becomes 's.'
Shin and sin are considered the same letter in the Hebrew alphabet. Remember, like all niqqud, these dots are usually not written.
Now, let's practice.
Write ש (shin) for each of these words.
שׁוּלְחָן (shul'khan) table
