This letter is called כ (kaf). Do you know how to write כ (kaf)? Get your pen and paper ready!
כ (kaf)
The sound of this letter is [k], [k].
Here is how you write כ (kaf):
Begin with a horizontal line, then draw a vertical line from its right side. Draw another horizontal line at the bottom starting from the left, and connect it to the vertical line at the bottom.
The cursive version is like this:
כ
Last case:
Be careful, though. It takes a different shape when it is written at the end of a word.
For the final form, called sofit, draw a horizontal line. Draw a long vertical line down from the right side of the horizontal line.
With dagesh:
כּ
The letter kaf has two different sounds. Without a dot, called dagesh, kaf makes the sound ‘kh.’ If you add the dagesh, the sound of kaf becomes 'k’ instead, but we don't count it as a separate letter in the alphabet. Remember, like all niqqud, these dots are usually not written.
Now, let's practice.
Write כ (kaf) for each of these words.
כַּדּוּר (kadur) ball
כּוֹכָב (kokhav) star
כֶּלֶב (kelev) dog
