John: This is Must-Know Hebrew Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 25. In this lesson, you'll learn timeless Hebrew slang expressions.
John: While some slang expressions become old-fashioned with time, these old expressions have become an integral part of the Hebrew language.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
John: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:
Katja: לקחת את העניינים לידיים (lakakhat et ha'inyanim la'yadaim)
Katja: לפול מהרגליים (lipol meha'raglaim)
Katja: לנשנש (lenashnesh)
Katja: היית מת.../ היית מתה... (haita met / hait meta...)
John: Katja, what's our first expression?
Katja: לקחת את העניינים לידיים (lakakhat et ha'inyanim la'yadaim)
John: literally meaning "to take things to the hands." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "to take charge."

John: The noun
Katja: Nishnush
John: means in Hebrew "a snack" and lenashnesh is it's verb form, which means "to munch." And when it's used as a slang expression, it also means "to munch."

John: Use this slang expression when you want to describe the action of eating something small, like snacks or appetizers. Or to describe the action of eating fast and while not sitting properly at a table (eating while driving for example).

John: literally meaning "you'd die..." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "you wish..."
