Lesson Transcript

Hi, Hebrew learners! Welcome to Hebrew Weekly Words. My name is Yaara and this week’s theme is Direction Words. Now, this can be a bit tricky so pay attention!
1.
צפון
(tsafon) “north”
תראו, זה כוכב הצפון!
(tir'uu, ze kokhav ha'tsafon!)
“Look, it's the North Star!”
2.
דרום
(darom) “south”
דרום הוא הפוך לצפון.
(darom hu hafukh le'tsafon.)
“South is opposite to north.”
3.
מזרח
(mizrakh) “east”
השמש זורחת במזרח.
(ha'shemesh zorakhat ba'mizrakh.)
“The sun rises in the east.”
מזרח
(mizrakh) can be easy to remember because it’s similar to the word
[זורח]
(zoreach) which means “shines”. It may be a bit easier to remember.
4.
מערב
(ma-arav) “west”
הייתי רוצה לחיות במערב הפרוע.
(haiti rotsa likhyot ba'ma-arav ha'paru-ah.)
“I would want to live in the Wild West.”
I wouldn’t know because it sounds scary, but you know, for the sake of the sentence.
5.
פנים
(pnim) “inside”
איפה את? אני כבר בפנים.
(eifo at? ani kvar bifnim.)
“Where are you? I'm already inside.”
So
[בפנים]
(bifnim) literally means “in the inside”.
So this is the end. We were talking about Direction Words. Thank you so much for watching. Leave us a comment if you have any questions and don’t forget to check out the site. See you next week. Bye!
