Lenny: And I’m Lenny!
Brandon: And welcome to Culture Class: Essential Hebrew Vocabulary, Lesson 12! In this lesson you'll learn five essential words related to geography and nature. These are five common animals found in Israel. Hand picked. You can find a complete list of vocabulary at HebrewPod101.com

Brandon: Camels can be easily seen in the southern part of Israel. Camels have the Hebrew nickname “ship of the desert.” Humans use camels’ for milk, meat, hair, as a method of transportation and to carry heavy loads.
Brandon: Now let's hear a sample sentence using this word.

Brandon: A camel can hold out for two weeks without drinking water.

Brandon: Like in many countries, Israelis consider the dove to be a symbol of peace. The origin of this symbol is based on the story of the flood in the book of Genesis. It says a dove brought an olive branch to Noah.

Brandon: A dove often appears in Christian paintings as a symbol indicating the Holy Spirit.

Brandon: You can find deer usually in the mountains in Israel. In the Bible, the deer is considered to be one of the only pure animals that are permitted to be eaten and was a common meal on King Solomon's table.

Brandon: Deer have large antlers.

Brandon: There is evidence showing that in the past, there used to be many crocodiles in Israel. Although you cannot find them there these days, Israelis still consider crocodiles to be a symbol of their culture.
Brandon: Now let's hear a sample sentence using this word.

Brandon: Since the industrial revolution, crocodiles have been endangered.

Brandon: Gazelle

Brandon: In Israel, gazelles are common and can be seen in the southern part of the country. A gazelle is a kind of antelope that lives in deserts, grasslands, and savannas. They live in herds, eat vegetation, and can run very very fast.
Brandon: Now let's hear a sample sentence using this word.
Lenny: (normal) צבעו של הצבי הוא חום בהיר.
Brandon: The color of the gazelle is light brown.

lol. These animals are not roaming the streets, but occasionally, you hear stories. Thank you for your help on my sentence. Subtleties are important.

יש לנו דובים וכלבים פראיים פה במקום שאני גרה, אבל במערב יש לנו גם נחשים ועקרבים ארסיים

I changed the structure of the second part of the sentence, because

אבל גם במערב יש לנו נחשים ועקרבים ארסיים

Means "but in the west we also have ...", meaning that snakes and scorpions live in both places - they are here but they are also there.

By the way, it may be better to lose the second לנו, and simply write יש. That is because לנו is taken more literally in Hebrew, so it sounds like the west is also related to you somehow (like the snakes in the west are also yours). However, it's not a mistake and it does work.


Is this true?! Yikes...
