Eric: Welcome to 3-Minute Hebrew Season 1, Lesson 4 - Asking How Someone Is. In this lesson, you’ll learn how to ask and answer the question ‘How are you?’ in Hebrew.
Body
Eric: First we’ll learn how to say 'How are you?' in Hebrew.
Yaara: [Normal] מה שלומך?(ma shlom'kha?)
Eric: First is an interrogative meaning 'what'
Yaara: [Normal] מה [Slow] מה (ma)
Eric: Last is the noun meaning 'your well-being'
Yaara: [Normal] שלומך [Slow] שלומך(shlom'kha)
Eric: Listen again to the phrase meaning 'How are you?'
Yaara: [Slow] מה שלומך? [Normal] מה שלומך?
Eric: Ok, now let's see the informal way to say 'What's up?'
Yaara: [Normal] מה העניינים?(ma ha'inyanim?)
Eric: First is an interrogative meaning 'what'
Yaara: [Normal] מה [Slow] מה (ma)
Eric: Last is the noun meaning 'the things’ or ‘the matters'
Yaara: [Normal] העניינים [Slow] העניינים(ha’inyanim)
Eric: Listen again to the informal phrase meaning 'What's up?'

Eric: Next we have the way to say 'fine, Thank you.'
Yaara: [Normal] טוב, תודה.(tov, toda.)
Eric: First is an adjective meaning 'good'
Yaara: [Normal] טוב [Slow] טוב(tov)
Eric: Last is the noun meaning 'thank (you)'
Yaara: [Normal] תודה [Slow] תודה(toda)
Eric: Listen again to the phrase meaning 'fine, Thank you.'

Eric: Finally, we have the way to say 'Not so well.'

Eric: Next is the phrase meaning 'so, so much'

Eric: Listen again to the phrase meaning 'Not so well.'

Yaara: Israelis are very sociable and open, and given the chance, they enjoy talking about most things. You shouldn’t be surprised if when you ask someone the question "how are you", you hear about a person’s life, children, and perhaps even cats!
