Eric: Welcome to 3-Minute Hebrew Season 1, Lesson 2 - Greetings. In this lesson, you’ll learn what to say to someone when meeting and when parting ways in Hebrew.
Body
Eric: First we’ll learn how to say 'Hi!' in Hebrew.
Yaara: [Normal] שלום!(shalom!)
Eric: This expression has only one word meaning 'Hi'
Yaara: [Normal] שלום [Slow] שלום (shalom)
Eric: Listen again to the word meaning 'Hi!'
Yaara: [Slow] שלום! [Normal] שלום!
Eric: Ok, now let's take a look at the formal way to say 'Good afternoon.'
Yaara: [Normal] צהריים טובים.(tzohoraim tovim.)
Eric: First is a noun meaning 'early afternoon'
Yaara: [Normal] צהריים [Slow] צהריים (tzohoraim)
Eric: Last is the adjective meaning 'good'
Yaara: [Normal] טובים [Slow] טובים(tovim)
Eric: Listen again to the formal phrase meaning 'Good afternoon.'
Yaara: [Slow] צהריים טובים. [Normal] צהריים טובים.
Eric: Next we have the way to say 'Goodbye.'
Yaara: [Normal] להתראות.(le'hitra'ot)
Eric: This expression has only one word meaning 'Goodbye'

Eric: Listen again to the word meaning 'Goodbye.'

Eric: Finally, here is an informal way to say 'Bye!'

Eric: Now it's time for a quick cultural insight.
Yaara: In formal situations, Israeli people commonly greet each other by shaking hands. On the other hand, if we meet someone we’re very friendly with, we kiss each other on one cheek. Don’t be afraid to do it with your Israeli friends—it’s normal!
