Yaara: Hi everyone, welcome to a brand new Hebrew weekly words. My name is Yaara, I’ll be the host for this week, and this week’s theme is the solar system.
1.
ירח
(yareakh) "moon"
Another word for “moon”, it’s not really used anymore, it's very poetic and you can see it in songs and stuff, is
לבנה
(levana), which means “white”.
יש ירח מלא הלילה.
(yesh yare'akh male ha-laila.)
"There is a full moon tonight."
2.
כדור הארץ
(kadur ha'aretz) "earth"
It literally means “earth ball”
לפני הרבה שנים, אנשים חשבו שכדור הארץ הוא שטוח.
(lifne harbe shanim, anashim khashvu she'kadur ha'aretz hu shatuakh.)
“A long time ago, people thaught the earth was flat."
3.
כוכב חמה
(kokhav khama) "mercury"
כוכב חמה הוא הפלנטה הקרובה ביותר לשמש.
(kokhav khama hu haplaneta hakrova beyoter la'shemesh.)
"Mercury is the closest planet to the sun."
4.
לווין
(lavyan) "satellite"
The word (lavyan) comes from the verb
ללוות
(lelavot), which means “to accompany”
ישראל שיגרה לחלל את הלווין "אופק".
(Israel shigra la'khalal et ha'lavyan "Ofek".)
"Israel launched the satellite "Ofek"."
5.
צדק
(tzedek) "Jupiter"
(tzedek) in Hebrew means Justice.
צדק הוא כוכב הלכת הגדול ביותר במערכת השמש.
(tzedek hu kokhav halekhet hagadol beyoter be'ma'arekhet ha'shemesh.)
"Jupiter is the biggest planet in the solar system."
When I was a little girl there was an Israeli TV show for children called הצצקנים (ha-tzatz'kanim) about three super heroes, maybe they came from outer space, I don't remember. but I think their leader was called jupiter they had stars names.
Ok, that's it for today! Thank you so much for watching, we talked about the solar system, do you wanna go to space? If you do that’s weird, but tell us below in the comments and don’t forget to check out the site, see you next week. Bye!
