Hi, everyone! Welcome to Hebrew Weekly Words. My name is Yaara, and this week we’re going to talk about “Geography”
גאוגרפיה
(geografya).
1.
אגם
(agam) means “lake,” and it became quite popular name for girls in the last few years. So walking in Israel, you can hear sometimes people calling their daughters
אגם
(agam) because it’s still quite new.
אני הולכת לשחות באגם.
(ani holekhet liskhot ba'agam.)
“I’m going to swim in the lake.”
This you will not hear very often in Israel because we don’t really have that many lakes. We have one famous lake called
[כנרת]
(kineret), and that’s pretty much it.

אוקיינוס
(okyanus) “ocean”
אני כל כך צמאה, אני יכולה לשתות אוקיינוס שלם.
(ani kol kakh tsme-ah, ani yekhola lishtot okyanus shalem.)
“I’m so thirsty, I can drink an entire ocean.”

הר
(har) “mountain”
בחורף, הר חרמון מתמלא בשלג.
(ba'khoref, har khermon mitmale be'sheleg.)
“In the winter, Hermon Mountain gets full of snow.”

מדבר
(midbar) “desert”
הייתם פעם במדבר יהודה?
(haitem pa-am be'midbar yehuda?)
“Have you ever been to the Judaean Desert?”
You should, it’s beautiful.

נהר
(nahar) “river”
הנהר האהוב עליי הוא הירדן.
(ha'nahar ha'ahuv alai hu ha'yarden. )
“My favorite river is the Jordan River.”
