Hi, everyone! שלום (shalom). My name is Yaara and this is Hebrew Weekly Words. Get ready for some serious Hebrew learning because our theme for this week is Studying a Language. So let’s start!
1.
שיעור
(shiur) “lesson”
השיעור היה מעניין.
(ha'shiur haya meanyen.)
“The lesson was interesting.”
2.
שפה
(safah) “language”
A fan fact; the word
שפה
(safah) means “lip” and also “language”.
השפה הראשונה שלי היא עברית.
(ha'safah ha'rishona sheli hi ivrit.)
“My first language is Hebrew.”
3.
אות
(ot) “letter”
בשפה העברית יש עשרים ושתיים אותיות.
(ba'safah ha'ivrit yesh esrim u'shtaim otiyot.)
“In the Hebrew language, there are twenty-two letters.”
4.
חיבור
(khibur) “written composition”
כתבתי חיבור על החתול שלי.
(katavti khibur al ha'khatul sheli.)
“I've written a written composition about my cat.”
It was very long and interesting. He’s a very complicated cat.
5.
ללמוד
(lilmod) “to study”
So
ללמוד
(lilmod) means “to study” but it also means “to learn” which kind of make sense I guess.

(atem nehenim lilmod ivrit?)
