Yaara: Hi everyone! שָׁלוֹם (shalom) and welcome to Hebrew weekly words. My name is Yaara and I am super excited to find out this week’s theme. Okay! drums… and this week’s theme is... “Being sick”. Yeah, it sounds like fun. Being sick להיות חולה - (li’hyot ħole).
זיהום
(zee'hum)
“infection”
I once had a ring in my eyebrow. well, when you are 16... you know.
.היה לי זיהום בגבה
(haya li zee'hum ba-gaba.)
“I had an infection in my eyebrow”. that’s a true story.
כאב ראש
(ke'ev rosh)
“headache”
I have so many of these, so I'm actually really experienced, I can tell you a lot about it.
.לא הגעתי לשיעור כי היה לי כאב ראש
(lo higati la-shi'ur ki haya li ke'ev rosh.)
“I didn’t come to class because I had a headache”, true story.
כאב בטן
(ke'ev beten)
“stomachache”
.אני חושבת שאכלתי משהו מקולקל. יש לי כאב בטן
(ani ħoshevet she-akhalti mashe'hu mekulkal. yesh li ke'ev beten.)
“I think I ate something bad, I have a stomachache.” Beware!
חום
(ħom)
“fever”
חום (khom) is actually the word for “heat” as well.
.הוא היה בסדר בבוקר, אבל אז עלה לו החום
(hu haya beseder ba-boker, aval az ala lo ha-ħom.)
“He was fine in the morning, but then his fever went up.”
צינון
(tzinun)
“cold”
.כשאת סובלת מצינון, את מתעטשת כל הזמן
(k'she-at sovelet mi-tzinun, at mit'ateshet kol ha-zman.)
“When you suffer from cold, you keep sneezing all the time.”
