Hi, everyone! Idit here. Welcome to Hebrew Weekly Words and this week, we’re going to talk about school supplies.
1.
תיק גב
(tik gav) “backpack”
מה יש לך בתיק גב? הוא כל כך כבד
(Ma yesh lakh batik gav? hu kol kakh kaved.) “What do you have in your backpack? It's so heavy.”
I have lots of books.
2.
מחברת
(Machberet) “notebook”
בבקשה תרשמו את שיעורי הבית במחברת
(Bevakasha tirshemu et shiurey habait bamachberet.) “Please write the homework in your notebook.”
I don’t know about you guys, but I had a lot of like those little notebooks that are not like spiral ones. It’s just like they are clipped on. I had like a special case to put all of them inside and I had a Barbie doll picture on it so I loved it when I was in the first grade.
3.
עיפרון מכני
(Iparon mekhani) “mechanical pencil”
לא זה לא עט, זה עיפרון מכני
(Lo, ze lo et, ze iparon mekhani) “Oh no, it's not a pen, it's a mechanical pencil.”
Personally, I always prefer like regular pencils, but I know a lot of people prefer the mechanical ones. I don’t know, they always broke on me like the little things, it’s a mess, not my cup of tea.

עיפרון
(Iparon) “pencil”
את התשובות למבחן בבקשה לא לכתוב בעיפרון
(Et hatshuvot lamivchan bevakasha lo likhtov beiparon.) “The answers to the test, please don't write them in a pencil.”
Yeah, also that’s like a common thing. I don’t know, probably in a lot of places that when you take tests, you’re not supposed to write with a pencil, only with a pen especially if it’s one of those tests when you blackout the little boxes and then it scans it. Yeah, pencils are no good at least in Israel, I don’t know.
5.
נייר
(Niar) “paper”
אני אוהבת להכין מטוסים מנייר.
(Ani ohevet lehakhin metosim miniar.) “I like making paper airplanes.”
Well, as a matter of fact, I have no idea how to make a paper airplane, to be honest. I can make a paper box though which is kind of cool right?
