Hey, Hebrew learners! My name is Yaara. This is Weekly Hebrew Words and today we’re going to talk about the Post Office. Are you excited? So am I!

דואר
(doar) “mail”
So “mail” is
דואר
(doar) and this is usually what we use to say “post office”.
אני הולכת לדואר.
(ani holekhet la'doar.)
Literally means “I'm going to the mail” but also means “I’m going to the post office).

דוור
(davar) “mailman”
For a woman
דוורית
(davarit) “mailwoman)
דוור
(davar) “mailman” is a funny word because it sounds like the word for a thing
[דבר]
(davar)
It’s not spelled the same but it sounds exactly the same.
הכלב שלי נשך את הדוור.
(ha'kelev sheli nashakh et ha'davar.)
“My dog bit the mailman.”

כתובת
(ktovet) “address”
סליחה, מה הכתובת שלך?
(slikha, ma ha'ktovet shelakh?)
“Excuse me, what is your address?”
Definitely an invasive question.
4.
מכתב
(mikh'tav) “letter”
קיבלתי מכתב מיפן.
(kibalti mikhtav mi'yapan.)
“I got a letter from Japan.”
I wonder who wrote it?
5.
מעטפה
(ma-atafa) “envelope”
אל תשכחי לסגור את המעטפה.
(al tishkekhi lisgor et ha'ma-atafa.)
“Don't forget to close the envelope.”
You don’t want the letter to fall out, do you?
