Hey, Hebrew learners! How are you doing? My name is Yaara and this is Hebrew Weekly Words, and this week’s theme is In the Classroom. Yes.

“classroom”
We use
כיתה
(kitah)
to say “classroom,” but also to say “class” or “grade”.
אני בכיתה א'.
(ani be'kitah alef.)
“I"m in first grade.”
I’m not, I’m way older than that, but thank you.
מה אתה עושה פה? לך לכיתה מיד!
(ma ata ose po? lekh la'kitah miyad!)
“What are you doing here? Go to the classroom immediately!”

אני לא יכולה לצאת הערב, יש לי מבחן מחר.
(ani lo yekhola latset haerev, yesh li mivkhan makhar.)
“I can't go out tonight, I have a test tomorrow.”

“I fell asleep during the lecture because it was boring.”
Never happened to me. I was the geekiest student in the university, never fell asleep during a lecture.

“textbook”
Literally meaning “learning book”.
אני לומדת למבחן מספר הלימוד.
(ani lomedet la'mivkhan mi'sefer ha'limud.)
“I"m studying for the test from the textbook.”

לוח
(luakh)
“blackboard”
המורה כותבת על הלוח.
(ha'morah kotevet al ha'luakh.)
“The teacher is writing on the blackboard.”
Which in Israel I think is mostly green, the green board.
