Hi, everyone! Welcome to Hebrew Weekly Words. My name is Yaara and this week’s theme is “Home tools”

(klei avoda)
כלי עבודה
(klei avoda) literally means “work tools”. Okay, let’s start!
1.
ארגז כלים
(argaz kelim) “toolbox”
The box in which you put your work tools.
אני הולכת לקנות ארגז כלים חדש.
(ani hole'khet liknot argaz kelim ħadash.)
“I'm going to buy a new toolbox.”
2.
בורג
(boreg) “screw”
In Hebrew, if you want to say that someone lost his marbles, you can say
נפל לו בורג
(nafal lo boreg) Literally “He dropped a screw.”
מה קרה לך, נפל לך בורג?
(ma kara le'kha, nafal le'kha boreg?)
“What happened to you, did you lose your mind?!”
נפל לו בורג
(nafal lo boreg)
3.
מברג
(mavreg) “screwdriver”
אתה יכול להעביר לי את המברג?
(ata ya'khol le'ha'avir li et ha-mavreg?)
“Can you hand me that screwdriver?”
Yes, there you go.
4.
סרט מדידה
(seret medida) “tape measure”
So the proper term is
סרט מדידה
(seret medida) but we usually call it
מטר
(meter) from the word “meter”.
“This tape measure was made in Israel.”
סרט המדידה הזה יוצר בישראל.
(seret ha-medida ha-ze yu'tzar be-isra'el.)
Or
המטר הזה יוצר בישראל.
(ha-meter ha-ze yu'tzar be-isra'el.)
“This tape measure was made in Israel.”

מסור
(masor) “saw”
I always carry one with me because you never know when you’re going to need it, you know.
אני תמיד לוקחת איתי מסור.
(ani tamid lokaħat iti masor.)
“I always take a saw with me.”
That’s not true, okay. It was just a joke. I don’t want you to think I’m that weird, okay.
