Survival Phrases Lesson 57 - It's Tasty
In today's lesson, we'll introduce you to a phrase you'll use countless times on your journey! For everyone out there who likes Israeli food, this word will ensure you keep getting more of it!
In Hebrew, "It's tasty" is ֶזֶה טָעִים, Ze taim. Let's break it down by syllable, זֶה טָעִים, Ze taim. Now, let's hear it once again, זֶה טָעִים, Ze taim. The first word זֶה, Ze means, "it." Next, we have טָעִים, Taim, which in English is "tasty." To recap here, we have זֶה טָעִים, Ze taim. Literally, this means "It's tasty."
If you want to say that you really like something, then you can use this phrase. In Hebrew, "It's very tasty" is Ze meod taim. Let's break it down by syllable, זֶה מְאוֹד טָעִים, Ze meod taim. Now, let's hear it once again, זֶה מְאוֹד טָעִים, Ze meod taim. This phrase is essentially the same. There is just one additional word added. That word is מְאוֹד, Meod. This word is an adverb and literally means "very." Let's break it down by syllable, מְאוֹד, Meod. The meaning of the entire phrase would be "It's very tasty."
In the event that you don't like something, "It's not tasty" is זֶה לֹא טָעִים, Ze lo taim. Let's break it down by syllable, זֶה לֹא טָעִים, Ze lo taim. Now, let's hear it once again, זֶה לֹא טָעִים, Ze lo taim. The first word זֶה, Ze means "it." Let's hear it one more time, זֶה, Ze. Next, we have the word לֹא, Lo, which means "no" in English. Last, we have the word טָעִים, Taim, which we already know means, "tasty." To build the negative form, you just need to add לֹא, Lo at the middle of the phrase, and you will have זֶה לֹא טָעִים, Ze lo taim.
Ok, to close out today's lesson, we would like you to practice what you have just learned. I'll provide you with the English equivalent of the phrase and you're responsible for shouting it out loud. You'll have a few seconds before I give you the answer, so !בְּהַצְלָחָה, Behatzlacha! which means "Good luck!" in Hebrew.

"It's very tasty." - זֶה מְאוֹד טָעִים, Ze meod taim.
